How Carburetor Work?

When the engine is running, the process of fuel delivery and air mixing in the carburetor comes to life. This pressure drop, in turn, triggers the carburetor’s fuel delivery system.

Located within the carburetor is a float chamber, housing a float and a fuel supply. The float ensures that the fuel level within the chamber remains at a consistent height. As the engine operates, the float adjusts to maintain the fuel level, preventing both flooding and fuel starvation. The fuel is drawn from the float chamber through tiny orifices called jets, which control the flow rate of fuel into the carburetor’s main mixing chamber. The Venturi’s pressure drop creates a suction effect, drawing fuel through the jets and into the mixing chamber. Here, the fuel combines with the incoming air, forming a finely atomized mixture.

The precisely atomized fuel-air mixture then continues its journey towards the engine’s cylinders through the intake manifold. As the engine’s intake valves open during the intake stroke, the mixture is drawn into the cylinders. Inside the cylinders, the fuel and air mixture undergoes the combustion process, ignited by the spark plugs. The rapid and controlled combustion generates a release of energy, expanding gases that push the engine’s pistons downward, ultimately driving the engine’s crankshaft.

The rotational motion of the crankshaft is then transferred to the vehicle’s wheels through the transmission and drivetrain system, propelling the vehicle forward. The carburetor’s crucial role in delivering the precise fuel-air mixture allows the engine to generate power smoothly and efficiently.

Advantages of Carburetors:
